When it comes to nutrition, there are a variety of methods you can use to reach your goals. The first thought that typically comes to someone’s mind is pursuing an alteration to their eating habits aka a diet. I think diets have their place in helping people reach their goals but they are typically not the most sustainable approach. You have people that yo-yo diet without ever truly reaching their nutritional goals. They are always fighting to lose that same amount of weight that never seems to go away.

The key to improving your health and the way you eat is to find a sustainable approach that works for you. The interesting thing is that this looks different for every person. The method and approach used by another may not be the best for you. In order to change the way you eat, it’s important to take into account several factors including but not limited to: activity level (sedentary vs non-sedentary), dietary preferences, exercise, choice of weight gain versus weight loss, your behaviors and dietary patterns.

Eating is something that we do everyday and in many ways we don’t spend enough time thinking about what we put into our bodies and how the food affects us. There lies the opportunity. There is immense value in putting even a small amount of thought into what you eat.

Here are a few high-level tips to help you as you begin your journey to better eating habits:

  1. Eat more whole foods & eat less processed foods
  2. Make the majority of your meals at home
  3. Make it Easy. Preparation is Key.
  4. Don’t restrict. Follow 80/20 principle
  5. Eat more slowly
  6. Limit calorie filled drinks
  7. Try to ensure that every meal includes PROTEIN!

In the coming weeks, I will release blog posts going into more detail about each of the tips listed above.
